Smooth ER is found in both plant and animal cells. The function of the Smooth ER is to create fats or lipids and to also carry different materials through the cytoplasm. The Smooth ER is found throughout the cytoplasm. If there was no Smooth ER in the cell, there would be no way for materials to get to where they needed in the cell.
Rough ER is found in both plant and animal cells. It is called the Rough ER because it is covered with ribosomes. The function of the Rough ER is to create protein using a process called translation. The Rough ER is found throughout the cytoplasm. If the cell didn’t have any Rough ER it would lose a large source of energy which is protein since the Rough ER is a large part of the protein production.
