The Mitochondria are found in both plant and animal cells. The singular is Mitochondrion and the plural is Mitochondria. The function of the Mitochondria is to give the cell energy by using cellular respiration. Mitochondrion are found in random places in the cytoplasm and there can be more than one in the cell. If the cell didn’t have Mitochondria, it wouldn’t be able to create enough power for the cell to live. A fun fact about the Mitochondria is that the University of California found out that defects with the Mitochondria may be the cause of autism.
